All Highland Park residents are eligible for a free library card. Bring proof of residence to the library to apply for and receive your card. The Library has an electronic catalog. All computers in the library access the catalog, as well as the library website at www.hpplnj.org. You may search for a book by author, title, keyword, subject, series and other parameters. Reference librarians are available to help you during all hours that the library is open.
Only residents of Highland Park with a valid library card may reserve a book. Reserve by calling the library at 732-572-2750 and asking for a book to be held for you. If the book is currently being used, an electronic request will be placed and you will be called as soon as it is available.
Generally, you may keep a book for fourteen days, with one renewal. Films on tape or DVDs, the loan period is two days with no renewal.
The Highland Park Public Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your monetary gifts are welcome and tax deductible! Click here to learn how YOU make a difference to your library. Everyone in the community benefits from your generosity.
For non-monetary donations such as books or other materials, please see the reference librarian.
Library patrons may request reference help for school or personal research at any time. Many sources of research information are available in the library in reference books, the general collection, magazines/journals and online databases. A reference librarian will assist you with specific sources for your needs, which may include quality sources of information about literature/fiction, medicine, law, business and many other topics.
The library is lucky to have many volunteers, usually young adults of high school age. Their reliable, diligent efforts are appreciated on a daily basis. Patrons of working age who would like to volunteer are welcome to call the library to discuss the opportunities.
The Highland Park Public Library cooperates with many area libraries to share collections. To search for a book not owned by the Library, select the "Other Libraries" option on the electronic catalog page, which is accessible in the library or at www.hpplnj.org. A request to borrow a book from another library must be made in person at the library. Area libraries usually do not loan items other than books.
Request a copy of the Board of Trustees' "Use of Library Facilities" document by calling the library at 732-572-2750. Patrons may also reserve quiet study room space for specific times by calling the library.
