Moving to New Jersey, he has picked up pastels and has rendered portraits, early morning and the beauty of local settings you might recognize. Varner has played acoustic bass with Pat Martino, Phil Woods, Dave Liebman and Michael Bond as part of the New York and New Brunswick jazz scene.
