Directions
N.J. TURNPIKE: Exit 9 – bear to the right at the toll booth and follow the sign toward New Brunswick on Route 18 North. Stay on Route 18 to the exit on the right marked “Highland Park – Route 27.” This will be a right hand turn onto the Albany Street bridge over the Raritan River. Follow Route 27 (Raritan Avenue) until the intersection with North 5th Avenue. Turn left at North 5th Avenue. The library parking lot is one-half block on the right. The entrance faces North 5th Avenue.
GARDEN STATE PARKWAY: Exit 131 – “Metuchen – Route 27.” Follow Route 27 through the town of Metuchen, being careful to observe that it makes a 90 degree turn to the left at a traffic light in Metuchen, and then another 90 degree turn to the right shortly after that. Proceed through Edison until you reach Highland Park. Turn right at the Intersection with North 5th Avenue. The library parking lot is one-half block on the right. The entrance faces North 5th Avenue.
ROUTE 287: Exit 9 “Highland Park-River Road.” Follow River Road (a right if coming from the North, a left if coming from the South) through Piscataway into Highland Park. River Road comes to an end at Route 27. Turn left onto Route 27, which is also Raritan Avenue. Turn left at North 5th Avenue. The library parking lot is one-half block on the right. The entrance faces North 5th Avenue.
ROUTE 1: NORTHBOUND: Proceed past the intersection with Route 18, go over the Goodkind Bridge. Pass Open Road Honda and Bocchieri’s on the right-hand side. Go under overpass and exit on right at sign for Highland Park. Follow the ramp which curves around to the right for Highland Park. This will bring you out onto Woodbridge Avenue. Proceed into Highland Park. Woodbridge Avenue will merge with Route 27/Raritan Avenue at about 6th Avenue. Turn right at North 5th Avenue. The library parking lot is one-half block on the right. The entrance faces North 5th Avenue.
ROUTE 1: SOUTHBOUND: Proceed past the Wick Plaza Shopping Center and the light at the intersection with Plainfield Avenue in Edison. Exit on the right at the sign for Highland Park. This will bring you out onto Woodbridge Avenue. Proceed into Highland Park. Woodbridge Avenue will merge with Route 27/Raritan Avenue at about 6th Avenue. Turn right at the next block, North 5th Avenue. The library parking lot is one-half block on the right. The entrance faces North 5th Avenues.
PARKING: In addition to the small lot on North 5th Avenue, there is usually parking available on the street across from the High School on North 5th Avenue. On-street parking is also usually available behind the library on North 6th Avenue, which is a one-way street. There is also a municipal parking lot on North 6th Avenue behind the Gold Coin Chinese Restaurant, which library visitors may use.
