Shelley Phillips began her career as an artist on the Steel Pier of Atlantic City when she was a teen. Each summer day she would sit in a concession stand sketching in charcoal and pastels. While capturing the beach goers, this was in the days before gambling, she also got to meet tight rope walkers and lion tamers who also worked on the pier. Shelley went on to attend the Tyler School of Fine Arts, in Philadelphia, with a split major in painting and education. Acrylics were her painting medium, and she enjoyed teaching elementary art for over 35 years mostly in the Boston area (Newton, Ma.) and later, here in New Jersey. Shelley has shared her paintings in library exhibits and has also held many popular origami workshops at the library. Shelley’s virtual exhibit will begin June 4 at 5:00pm on Facebook.
