Highland Park artist Cynthia Walling made year long visits to Algeria and Dakar in the 1980s and 1990s. What she brought back are vibrant sketches and water colors of the people and landscapes of Algeria and Dakar, the two countries where she lived.
From now until the end of April they will be at the Highland Park Public Library in the main hall display case. The top shelves reflect in life in Algiers and the bottom two her stay in Senegal.
Walling, who has been painting most of her life, traveled with her husband Bill while he was doing Fulbright Fellowships in both countries, teaching English literature. Walling also taught math and science in Algiers. She has done several exhibits at the Highland Park Public Library.
